The Shedra (Monastic College) was home to the Kilung Children’s School, both essential to providing traditional Tibetan education to the community and to furthering Buddhist spiritual training.

Cleared site of the Kilung Shedra prepared for reconstruction

The sixty students initially resumed their studies in tents and temporary structures, but this proved too difficult and there is currently no school or shedra in session. The children and monks are scattered in different places, some at home, some in public school, and some at other Shedras such as Dzogchen, Shedchen, Jangma, Palpung and Machen.

Demolition of the destroyed Shedra has been completed, and the site is prepared for the rebuilding that will start in the spring of 2018.

Architectural plans have been developed for a new three-story,
modern and environmentally sensitive building.

The new building, estimated to cost $1.7 million, will not only replace classrooms and dormitories essential for education, but it will also provide space for new activities and services including education for girls, visiting medical care, and community gatherings.

Initial fundraising efforts have already raised a fifth of the funds
needed to build the new design.

We need your help to complete the project!
