Special ways to give
As rooms take shape in the new building, we imagine them soon filled with Tibetan children, monks and families whose lives and culture will be sustained by the new monastic college, children’s school and community center. You can help quickly bring that vision to fruition with one of the special ways to give described below.

Dedicate a Gau

A Gau is a traditional Tibetan prayer box dedicated in honor of an ancestor, family member or loved one. The name of the honored person will be placed inside the Gau on a wall in the beautiful new Kilung Shedra temple and teaching hall, receiving and generating blessings for all.

(Please indicate “Shedra Gau” on your donation and include the name of the person you are honoring.)

                                       $5,000 for each Gau:

or contact to pledge your gift over time.

Sponsor a Designated Space
Click HERE for architectural drawings of the rooms in the new Shedra complex. Sponsoring spaces in the new Shedra is a way to connect with and support those who will live, study and practice in them.

  • Main Teaching Hall/Temple – $1,000 goes toward the cost of one of the 290 seats in the spacious three story shrine room and teaching hall, the spiritual centerpiece of the Shedra complex.  $290,000 needed.
  • Student Living Spaces – $1,500 goes toward the cost of one bed and living facilities for Shedra and Community School students. 36 dorm rooms will accommodate between 120 and 180 students  $225,000 needed.
  • Classrooms, Library, Meeting Rooms and Offices – $18,000 goes toward the cost of one of the 16 spaces that will support teaching and learning for the Shedra and Community School students, including residential teachers’ quarters. $288,000 needed.
  • Retreat Rooms – $12,000 goes toward the cost of one of the 8 retreat rooms where Shedra students will do intensive practice to deepen their understanding of the precious Longchen Nyingtik teachings.  $96,000 needed.

or contact to pledge your gift over time.

The Shedra (Monastic College) will also be home to the Kilung Children’s School, both essential to providing traditional Tibetan education to the community and to furthering Buddhist spiritual training.

After the fire, the sixty students initially resumed their studies in tents and temporary structures, but this proved too difficult and there is currently no school or shedra in session. The children and monks are scattered in different places, some at home, some in public school, and some at other Shedras such as Dzogchen, Shechen, Jangma, Palpung and Machen.

Demolition of the destroyed Shedra was completed, and groundbreaking for the new Shedra and Community Center was on June 17th, 2018. Follow progress of the construction HERE.

The shedra will be a three-story,
modern and environmentally sensitive building.

The new building, estimated to cost $1.7 million, will not only replace classrooms and dormitories essential for education, but it will also provide space for new activities and services including education for girls, visiting medical care, and community gatherings.
